Hi all. I am considering a fitness audit within Primary Schools. For example, sit & reach, aerobic ability etc. What elements of fitness do you suggest to test them on?

Hi Craig, I guess it depends on what you are planing to use the data for or the type of intervention training programme you have got in mind. But I would suggest the following:
– Cardiovascular fitness
– Flexibility
– Body Mass Index

Thanks Liz. The idea is in its infancy at the minute. The plan is to test them every half term with the following
Year 1&2 – 20m Sprint, Sit & Reach, Standing Verticle Jump, Standing Long Jump
Year 3&4 – All of the above plus Yo Yo test
Year 5&6 – All of the above plus Illonois T Test.

I use it lots with KS1 & KS2 as a game based activity once they have practiced their throwing and aiming work as I find with the correct rules (i.e if you get hit you stand out for 5 seconds and then join in) it offers a great return on the amount of repetitions you can get into the lesson.
