Wayne McGregor | Random Dance are a contemporary dance company based at Sadler’s Wells in London. The company was founded by Wayne McGregor (also Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet) in 1992 and tours full-length contemporary dance works around the UK and internationally.
The company’s new Mind and Movement resource is based around twelve principles that can be applied to imagery and movement. The resource contains five lessons that each explore the principles through a Move task that introduces a movement creation skill, an Imagine task that develops skills for working with imagery and a Create task that uses imagery as a stimulus for creating movement, bringing together the skills introduced in the Move and Imagine tasks. The resource also includes three What Next? Cards that provide tasks and ideas for developing and structuring movement material created during the five lessons.
This sample solo dance lesson includes the Move task from Lesson 1 of the resource, exploring the movement skill of drawing and gives a task for developing a solo phrase into a duet. It can be used with students from Key Stage 2 and upwards.
