Today’s PEdagogy technique: Questioning/Cold Calling
Cold Calling is a questioning technique that requires all learners to be ready to answer the questions asked. It allows the teacher to ask a question, requiring the whole class to think and then choose who answers the question.
Purpose in the learning process
- Cold calling creates an expectation that all students are ready to answer.
- It is designed to increase engagement and participation.
- In the order of: Ask the question, allow the students to think, choose a student
to answer, develop answer as required - Careful sequencing of questions and student selection allows differentiation of challenge within the classroom.
