Responding to Covid-19 – Assessment 2022

Live moderations are now allowed to happen in 2022. Schools are also allowed to have a video moderation. The guidance and notes can be found from AQA here. The changes permitted by Ofqual are all made clear in this document. Students and centres will be finalising marks for the required 2 activity areas (both individual, both team or one of each). Moderation will be remote with centres overseas.

The moderation timeline we have discussed, will operate but please make sure you are familiar with competitive context adaptations on page 5 to 9 of the guidance document and how and why to use supplementary evidence/reports on pages 3 and 4.

COVID has certainly impacted the potential for evidence for both parts, specifically an accurate level of challenge for part 2 or just merely access to activities due to bubbles in school. It is therefore really beneficial to see that adaptations can be applied, along with supplementary evidence to justify the mark.

In terms of the exam and clarification of which topic areas will be included in the reduced breadth, has now been received by schools. I believe the idea is to ensure we all teach the whole course and then narrow the focus for revision of higher tariffed questions.

In the meantime, here are four things to consider:

  1. How can you best ensure students gather video evidence and/or work with you to build a supplementary report in their chosen activities?
  2. Familiarise yourself with the marks and scaling now only 2 activities are being assessed. The candidate record form has been updated to reflect the reduction.
  3. The part 3 is assessed as normal. Have you applied key learning from our lessons on use of the best fit marking grid and annotations.
  4. Downloaded your centre spreadsheet from centre services and populate with names, activities, type of evidence and scores ready to send to the moderator 2 weeks before the moderation date.
  5. Raised any questions or concerns with your NEA advisor.

Discussion

Please use the space below to share your thoughts and reflections on how best to respond to covid-19 in terms of lost learning time but also things you have discovered and have triggered a change in practice.
