Revisiting our series of PEdagogical models one-pagers from back in 2024, we thought we would add to the collection.
The Movement-Oriented Practising Model (MPM) introduces a fourth form of human activity to PE: practising. Distinct from labour (fitness), work (sport) and action (experience), this model is rooted in the philosophy of Peter Sloterdijk and focuses on self-improvement through independent, agentive effort.
Centred on verticality (the human urge to get better), MPM moves beyond mindless drills. Instead, it engages students in meaningful repetition where they navigate the “learning pit” between ‘I can’ and ‘I cannot.’ By finding the “Goldilocks” level of difficulty, students develop resilience and agency, transforming their capabilities through the deliberate struggle to improve.
