Festive Challenge

Team GB and Aldi recruit Kevin the Carrot to Inspire Healthy Eating in Young People with Their Latest Festive Challenge Resources

Get Set to Eat Fresh, Aldi and Team GB’s free education programme, is excited to announce the return of Kevin the Carrot, the star of Aldi’s Christmas advert for four years running. Kevin’s Amazing Festive Challenges are now available to download on www.getseteatfresh.co.uk and, to celebrate, Aldi has released limited edition Christmas-themed Kevin soft toys! These are not available in stores, but lucky schools can bag a festive toy by signing up to the Get Set to Eat Fresh programme today.

The Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative teaches young people aged 5–14 about eating well and gives them the skills and confidence to cook fresh, healthy meals. The latest addition to the programme’s bank of free, downloadable resources, Kevin’s Amazing Festive Challenges, continues this legacy by teaching young people about healthy eating and inspires them to eat fresh fruit and veg over the festive period.

Starter and cross-curricular activities

Kevin’s Amazing Festive Challenges see Kevin, Katie and friends join young people in a selection of 12 quick and flexible starter activities and 6 longer cross-curricular activity ideas that explore healthy eating, Christmas food and the story of Kevin the Carrot and his Amazing Christmas show! Whether it’s creating your own decorations, solving recipe-related maths problems, or making a new healthy Christmas recipe, these resources are designed to engage primary school pupils with problem-solving, higher-order-thinking-skills and creative tasks to inspire them this Christmas.

By registering on www.getseteatfresh.co.uk, alongside free access to all the programmes teaching resources, schools will be entered in to a draw to win some extra special Kevin the Carrot soft toys. After selling out the last three years in stores, Aldi and Team GB are thrilled to offer 10 exclusive Christmas-themed Kevin soft toys, that will not be available in stores, to the winning schools! Other prizes include Aldi vouchers and special kitchen equipment to encourage kids to make the perfect healthy Christmas dinner.

Sean McGinty, Marketing Director at Aldi UK, said: “It’s great to see the reaction that kids have for Kevin each year and we at Aldi are proud to have a mascot that inspires healthy eating in young people. We are excited to launch the resources and prizes that will keep kids eating healthy and having fun over Christmas.”

Kevin shares the Christmas spotlight with an all-star cast of Team GB Aldi Athlete Ambassadors, including two-time Taekwondo Olympic champion Jade Jones, that represent the Get Set to Eat Fresh programme which has forged a healthy legacy that reached over 1.6 million children through its goal of inspiring healthy eating.

Jade Jones, Taekwondo, double Olympic Gold Medallist and Aldi Athlete Ambassador said:

“It’s so exciting to have these new healthy eating resources released for Christmas time, they offer a fun way for kids to explore healthy eating options with quick and easy festive challenges. And they get to do it alongside everyone’s favourite mascot, Kevin the Carrot!”
