Oak Curriculum Partners

Oak curriculum principles

We are thrilled to confirm that we have been awarded the contract to create Curriculum PE resources on behalf of the Oak Academy. We will be working in partnership with Complete PE and Youth Sport Trust but also ensuring input from our subject association afPE and most importantly that our network of physical educators informs what is created to ensure it has maximum value.

The resources will include planning for practical PE across Key Stages 1-4, in addition to GCSE PE content in the first instance.

We are excited to begin work on this important project over the next 18 months or so as we support Oak’s mission of ensuring all schools have access to a high quality curriculum. For those of you not aware of Oak National Academy and their work, they were established at pace in lockdown as a response to covid-19 and the necessity for students to access learning from home. Over three years later and traffic to their website remains high which has resulted in a second phase of development to support teachers with high-quality sequences of learning and lesson materials that are fully editable and free to use. Read more here and Oak’s announcement is available here.

Initially we will be exploring how best to adapt the Oak model to best fit the needs of our practical subject and what to include in the initial wave of units of work to ensure they are fit for purpose for as many schools as possible and support the already great work going on in so many schools. We envisage these materials being of particular value to trainee and recently qualified teachers but also to build confidence in more experienced teachers introducing new activity areas/ units of work. We also envisage PE subject leads utilising the lesson materials when they need safe and easy to follow cover work. The beauty of these materials is that they will all be fully editable and easy for you to spin up your own alterations or changes to apply through different vehicles for learning (activity areas). Whilst we are limited on the number of units and lessons we will be writing, and that will lead to some challenging choices around what to leave out in this initial wave of content creation, our ambition is to do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to planning and produce materials that make PE a more positive experience for all… including reducing the workload for teachers.
