Conference Overview

Front-line professionals understand more than anyone about the pressures of increasing demand on health and social care services at the same time as tighter budgets. Managing this demand is part of the day-to-day work of health and care professionals across the country.

Poor health can lead to chronic diseases known as long-term conditions for which there is currently no cure. Across the UK, more than 15 million people live with long-term conditions which are managed by drugs and other treatments. Treatment and ongoing care for people with a long-term condition are estimated to cost £7 in every £10 of total health and social care expenditure.

As part of the solution, Central and Local Government and their associated partnering organisations have devised and implemented several initiatives that encourage greater movement. In addition, healthcare professionals share resources and integrate physical activity into routine care. But is this enough? Has the time for mitigation now passed? Do we need to turn our attention to prevention by redesigning communities, increasing our education and providing inclusive opportunities?

This must-attend conference will clearly articulate current evidence and provide insights on research around these many conditions and how to adopt a preventative health approach in your local areas and communities through the promotion and prescription of physical activity. It will seek to address the current skills gap across healthcare in this regard and provide a blueprint for the future delivery of health and social care.
